10. It actually looks and feels like fall to us. The grass is brown. It is cool outside. The leaves are all brown and crumpled on the ground.
9. We run into familiar people all over the place. We never know who we might see and it is always a treat to see faces from the past!
8. The kids are spending HOURS at a time running and exploring the wide, open spaces. Jackson is finding all kinds of sticks, rocks, leaves, and random tools and he is having a BLAST. They all played in the back of dad's truck yesterday for an hour filling it up with leaves and rocks.
7. There are so many memories for us here. I'll be in my old room and remember phone calls, fun times with friends, the way it was decorated. I will be in the kitchen and remember conversations with family. Brad and I also spent a good amount of our dating days here. Sigh. Good stuff.
6. The strangers are seriously so nice here. You can really strike up a conversation with just about anyone. People always ask me what Oklahoma is known for. I think the best part of this state is the warmth of the people. . . and they do have that really great musical. :)
5. The "lingering" people seem to do here. You just linger . . .after a meal, before a meal, after church. It just seems like life is lived at a slower pace here. There just isn't much of a rush.
4. The familiarity. I lived in this town for the first 19 years of my life. It seems like I have a story for every road I drive down. I know this place like the back of my hand. Love that.
3. A lot of our extended family lives within driving distance. We miss the random get togethers and the experience of our kids growing up around these amazing people!! There are just so many quality people that we love being around in the McGregor clan!
2. The food. Nothing screams comfort like a warm blackberry pie, a Sonic drink, or some nice warm onion rings from Johnnies.
1. Our branch of family: Mom, Dad, Scott, Kristen, Abigail, Garrett, Seth, AND the Bakers. We have not been all together for over 2 years. The cousins are having a blast. The adults are having fun talking, watching the kids, playing games, and just being together.
Don't worry. We are going back to Cali. We are, however, thoroughly savoring all we possibly can during our visit. We're only saying, "You're doing fine, Oklahoma! Oklahoma, O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A, OKLAHOMA! OK!"
